D-PAIDEIA Press release – Pedagogical Digital Competencies Framework

D-Paideia Project Welcomes DigComp 3.0

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, DigCompEdu was considered one of the most comprehensive frameworks for teachers’ digital competence in education. However, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the limitations of the framework, particularly the absence of descriptors that address the social and emotional challenges of digital teaching and learning that emerged during lockdowns.

As a result, there is a pressing need to update DigCompEdu to ensure that it adequately covers this aspect and to train teachers for future challenges.

With the recent launch of DigComp 3.0, the European Commission’s updated framework for citizens’ digital competence, D‑Paideia project partners are taking this opportunity to release a special edition press release focusing on our Pedagogical Digital Competencies Qualifications Framework.

We welcome DigComp 3.0 as a major step forward for Europe’s digital competence standards and recognise it as a perfect moment to highlight the relevance of updating DigCompEdu, particularly to reflect socio-emotional, ethical, and well-being dimensions of digital education.

DigComp 3.0 is a comprehensive roadmap for everyone working on digital skills development, from basic digital literacy to the advanced and responsible use of AI and emerging technologies.

What is new?

  • A clearer structure built around three competence clusters
  • 500+ learning outcomes to support teaching, learning, and assessment
  • A stronger focus on AI literacy, data practices, cybersecurity, and digital well-being

D-Paideia’s Pedagogical Digital Competencies Qualifications Framework

Back in December 2023, the D‑Paideia project successfully launched its Pedagogical Digital Competencies Qualifications Framework (Deliverable D2.1), offering a comprehensive reference for educators’ digital and pedagogical competences. The framework responds directly to the gaps revealed by the COVID‑19 pandemic, especially in socio-emotional, relational, and well-being aspects of digital teaching and learning.

Developed through extensive literature research and consultations with nearly 180 teachers and 30 experts, it provides practical guidance for teacher training, professional development, and curriculum design.

The Framework is available on the project website: https://www.d-paideia.eu/qualifications-framework/

D‑Paideia project continues to advocate for the integration of socio-emotional, ethical, and well-being dimensions in teacher digital competence frameworks, ensuring that educators are fully equipped to navigate the challenges of digital education.

D‑Paideia partners invite schools, teacher training institutions, policy makers, and European education networks to adopt the framework in professional development and institutional planning, ensuring that educators are prepared for the demands of the digital age while safeguarding learners’ well-being.
